Johnstown’s history is made up of the stories of the people whose lives have touched this community, and we’re here to help you leave a piece of your family’s story behind for the generations who come after you.

We’re Building A Johnstown Family History Archive
Through this project, we’re building a community family-history archive to preserve the stories, photographs, memories, and everyday pieces of life that help future generations discover the people who came before them. You don’t have to be a historian, or even have an extraordinary story. Your family’s ordinary life is exactly the kind of history someone may someday be searching for. Help us make sure they can find it.
A Place for Your Family’s History
Your family may already have its own collection of photographs and memories, but family treasures can be separated, misplaced, damaged, or lost over time. By preserving a copy in the JHS archives, your family’s story has another home and another chance to survive and be discovered by others.
Your Story, Your Wishes
We understand family history can be personal, and people have different levels of comfort when it comes to sharing it. When you participate, you’ll have an opportunity to let us know how you would like your submission to be shared or used, and we will respect your wishes. If you have specific questions or concerns, you may contact us before submitting.
There’s No Wrong Way to Share Your Story
The form below is intentionally brief. We wanted it to be easy to complete and not feel overwhelming. However, if you have more to share, please don’t leave it out. We have other submission options available, and you can choose which option is best for you:
- Complete and submit the form multiple times if you have more to share than the space allows.
- Drop off your materials in person at the Historic Parish House and Museum.
- Email your materials to our Museum Director at JHSCOmuseum@gmail.com.
If you’re not sure where to start or what to share, reach out to us. We’re happy to help! Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to contribute to the archive.
If you’re missing some details, that’s okay. Share what you know, share what you remember, and let us help you preserve it.
Help Us Reach More People
We’d also love your help in reaching more people with this project. Would your organization or group benefit from a short presentation and an opportunity to complete the forms in person? We’re happy to explore bringing Your Story Matters to senior centers, family reunions, high school reunions, community groups, churches, and other local gatherings.
