Take an Adventure in Exploring Your Family History
For Beginners to Seasoned Travelers

Pack your curiosity and join us for an exciting journey into the past! The Johnstown Historical Society invites you to embark on a two-day adventure in discovering your family history.
Whether you’re just beginning your family history journey or you’re an experienced researcher looking for new routes to explore, this workshop offers something for every traveler. Participants will learn proven genealogy methods alongside today’s latest research tools and techniques to uncover family stories, break through research roadblocks, and connect with generations past.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll discover how to:
- Find and organize historical records, photographs, and family documents
- Preserve family stories for future generations through writing and storytelling
- Use today’s AI tools to help organize research and write meaningful family histories
- Understand how DNA testing can complement traditional genealogy research
- Conduct effective family interviews and preserve oral histories
- Create a personalized research plan to continue your family history journey long after the workshop ends
Participants will receive hands-on guidance as they work on their own family history throughout the workshop. For the best experience, attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet, along with any information they have already gathered on one or two ancestors. However, no prior experience or research is required. You’re welcome to come simply to listen, learn, and be inspired. A limited number of devices will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for participants who would like to use them.
This workshop is part of the Johnstown Historical Society’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 150th anniversary of Colorado in an effort to help community members explore their own place in history by uncovering the stories that connect their families to the larger American and Colorado story.
